These movies cover some techniques for importing background images and mapping them on 3D shapes, using data from a 3D digitizer, and recreating objects from a point cloud.

Digitize
(![]()
3 Mb / 2.18 minutes) illustrate
the basic steps for digitizing a boat hood, exporting it to TouchCAD, skinning
and unfolding it, and exporting the result as a ready to cut file in DXF-AAMA
format.

Background
Image Modeling (![]()
9.8 Mb 7.43
minutes) illustrates how to model a 3D shape based on three in-scale
background images. The model is a sheet metal based ventilation component.
Reversed Engineering(
5.9 Mb / 8 minutes). illustrates some techniques how to recreate
already existing objects and converting them into unfoldable objects.
TouchCAD comes with support for background images, in scale, they follow the model when pan and zoom. This is a key feature when recreating existing objects on the screen and when doing reversed engineering.
The import dialog allows you to scale, rotate, skew and deform the picture, for example to flatten the perspective. The background image import features support very high resolution images.
A new dialog allows you to fine-tune the location of the background image in the main drawing window.
